7 ways to earn delta miles

if you know me, you know my preferred airline is delta and i’m here to bring you into the club. i used to fly on whichever flight was cheapest, but i’ve found my brand loyalty is saving me money, time, and energy in the long run so in delta i trust, forever.

here are 5 ways i earn miles on everyday spending, which i turn into free flights all around the world:

travel + leisure

  1. AMEX platinum card — once you sign up for your own AMEX platinum card, link your amextravel.com account to your delta skymiles account to transfer your AMEX points to delta anytime. usually 1 points = 1 mile, and if you book delta flights directly on amextravel.com, you get 5x points per dollar spent.

  2. AMEX delta skymiles card — sign up for your own AMEX delta skymiles card, link this card to your delta account as your primary card on file to earn 15% off all fares regardless of whether you use dollars or points to book, plus get 5 miles per dollar on qualifying delta flights (earn more once you have medallion status with delta!)

  3. airbnb —when booking airbnbs, use the link deltaairbnb.com, enter your skymiles number, and then book as usual to earn miles per dollar spent.

  4. instacart — link your AMEX platinum card to your instacart account to earn miles per dollar spent on grocery, alcohol, and convenience deliveries.

  5. lyft — though the AMEX platinum card gets you $15 uber cash per month ($25 in december), lyft gives you 1 delta mile per dollar spent on rides, and double points for airport rides. for this reason, i use my uber cash per month on cars or uber eats orders, and then switch exclusively to lyft for the rest of the month to maximize the benefits for both.

  6. starbucks — you can link your delta skymiles account to your starbucks account to earn miles/stars, or just earn milers per dollar spent when you use your card to pay at starbucks.

  7. skymiles shopping — when you shop on americanexpress.skymilesshopping.com you can earn miles per dollar spent at a ton of rotating partners like lululemon, apple, even wireless carriers like at&t!
